Tirupur : Vetritamilar Peravai held a program in the city, 'Tamilaatru Padai’ to felicitate the late poet ‘Kaviko’ S Abdul Rahman.

The former Malaysian Minister, Datuk M Saravanan, DMK MP Kanimozhi, Kavignar Vairamuthu and many others participated in the event.

Addressing the media after the event, Kavignar Vairamuthu opined, "If even Tamil people themselves do not have any faith in the Tamil language, then who else will have faith in it. Primarily, parents should have faith in the Tamil language. The increase in English medium schools even in villages has lead to the fear whether Tamil which is in script form now will exist only as a verbal language after 50 years." "It is our primary duty to learn the Tamil language, be educated through the Tamil medium and to have faith in the Tamil language. If it could be implemented by law, we should think on it," he emphasised.

Speaking during the event, when asked on whether Kavignar Vairamuthu would enter politics, MP Kanimozhi said, "I will not ask him to come into politics as it is his own personal decision. But, being a poet who has understood Periyar, bringing to light the happenings in our society without any fear in his attractive language is much needed in the present scenario." "Come with a sword, we will accompany you," she added in favour of the poet's entry into politics. Earlier, during her speech, Kanimozhi spoke on the friendship of Kavignar Vairamuthu and late former DMK Chief, Karunanidhi.

Moved by her speech, Vairamuthu burst into tears. "From now on, my books will be released after keeping them first at the feet of the late former Chief Minister, Karunanidhi's portrait," said an emotional Vairamuthu.
